Edward Fletcher Norcross papers, 1882-1925.

The collection is made up mainly of two sets of diaries kept by E. F. Norcross from 1882 through 1924. The first one includes events, weather, the time Dr. Norcross arose and went to bed, a series of mysterious numbers each day (such as "240.64" and "96.21"), medical notations, patients seen, and money made and spent to the last cent. The other set of diaries is composed mostly of financial records and served as an appointment book, sometimes listing the names of patients seen and what was charged and what prescribed. The financial diaries also include payments made for chores done, including payments for work done on properties he seems to have supervised in Island Pond, Vermont. The handwriting in the diaries is almost impossible to read, and gets worse as he gets older. There is also a book of expenses for a ditch-digging project and a bulky folder made up of receipts for expenses he incurred in the 1890s. Another folder contains two photographs of Dr. Norcross and three printed items. The collection also includes nine letters written during the Civil War by Solomon Heaton, Jesse Bates, and Alonzo Brown, and three letters from the 1880s with Island Pond connections, as well as a folder containing unidentified photographs, including a stereoview by William H. Sipperly of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and an autograph book belonging to Mary Turner, containing signatures from the area around Bath, New York and New Milford, Pennsylvania.
